ALLIANCE AREA PRESERVATION SOCIETY

Minutes of the Meeting - October 24, 2005 at 7:00 p.m. 

In attendance - Kay Brown, Maryjo Hepler, Gordon Harrison, Robb Hyde, Mike Aeling, Carolyn Miller, Frank Barrett, Beth Gray, Martha McClaugherty and Ginny Daniel.  

President's Report - Kay opened the meeting.

Treasurer's Report - Gordon has received 19 responses to our fundraising letter this week and has received $1,800.00.

Renovation Report - Maryjo reported that 1) she received a proposal for landscaping of the north and west sides of the house from Dave Hoover; she will meet with representatives of the garden clubs to discuss the proposal; 2) Gary Duvall has the architectural plan finished; 3) the parlor draperies have been hung and are beautiful;   4) she will keep a list of things that need to be done on a clipboard and whenever we come to work we can cross off the items we accomplish; 5) she has purchased pillowcases for the Grant bedroom, a tablecloth for the dining room and candle holders for the Christmas tree; 6) the lath needs to be pulled down in the attic - Robb and Mike will meet at 7 p.m. on Nov. 1 to work on it, anyone else is welcome; 7) rubber backed mats that were stored in the basement are proving difficult to clean - discussion was had about whether to purchase new ones or try to deodorize them;  8) Maryjo moved that we purchase one more long table to have in the library for craft projects for school groups - Robb seconded, all were in favor, Maryjo will buy one;    9) she would like to have a "wish list" of items we need or would like to have to hand out at the annual meeting; 10) Betty Domino donated two pictures and a gilt frame if we would like to have them.

Education Report - 1) Martha presented a schedule for Open House dates:

2) Robb will do a sign for the front indicating Open House hours; 3) Dec. 10th 10-11 a.m. - Boy Scout group tour; 6-7 p.m. - Clinton Historical Society tour; 3) Robb will send out Christmas cards with insert telling of dates for Open Houses and Lamp Light Tour; 4) Kay will contact garden clubs about flowers for Christmas holidays;    5) discussion was held about having a board activity during the holidays - it was decided to have a pot luck snack get- together on Dec. 11 at 3:30 p.m. - come, relax, and have fun with some period parlor games

Old Business - 1) Carolyn has been trying to contact relatives of Mabel Summer Haines but hasn't had success in reaching anyone; 2) Mike will check with another consignment shop on Main Street to see if they are willing to try to sell our banners
New Business - 1) Jenni and Robb will serve as the nominating committee;    2) Robb will bring a proposal to the next meeting to change the By-Laws so that board members will be able to serve two full three-year terms; 3) Ginny brought up the need for a dehumidifier - it was decided that we need to wait until after the new bathroom is put in and the area below is sealed up to see if the humidity in the house improves

Dates to Remember -  Workdays will be the first Saturday morning and any other time individuals are able to come and want to tackle jobs that Maryjo will have listed on the clipboard - Maryjo will send out an e-mail when specific help is needed.  Hopefully, some new life will be infused in the work sessions.

November 28th - next Board Meeting - 7:00 p.m.

Adjournment - Carolyn moved that we adjourn and Robb seconded the motion.  All approved.
