We currently haw a 5-year $15,000.00 mortgage on which we are paying $300.00 per month. We haw $400.00 in our checking account. Our dinner at Second Baptist Church brought in $633.00, but not all expenses have yet been counted. Jesse Harry moved that we accept the Treasurer's report. Peter Synnestwdt seconded the motion. The motion was approved.
FUNDRAISING COMMITTEE REPORT: Pat Sacha reported on fundraising activities to date and ideas for future ones. We haw sent out a total of 845 letters to area businesses and residents informing them of our existence and our desire to restore the Haines House and open a multi-cultural museum. We have also taken a 1/4-page ad in the Alliance Review two times.
We received the proceeds from the Washington Elementary School Student Senate's Christmas fundraiser in the form of a $164.00 donation to further our restoration work.
Our first-time spaghetti dinner held at Second Baptist Church went well.
Ideas the committee is considering for the future to keep the Haines House in front of the public's eye and to gamer more funds for our restoration efforts are:
1. 15-18 month calendar - Landmark People in Landmark Places
2. English tea party - next spring
3. Murder Mystery at the Haines House
4. Fancy reception at the house in the fall
5. Neighborhood block party in the summer
6. Bookmarks and ornaments
7. Antique auction
8. MUC theater group present a play at Haines House
RENOVATION COMMITTEE REPORT: Maryjo Hepler and Jesse Harry reported that Elizabeth Murphy of Akron, an historic architectural consultant, has visited the house and will let us know if she can help us with both long and short range restoration planning. Short-term items that need to be addressed as soon as possible are the heating system, general clean- up, replacing of window, and trimming of trees and cleaning of gutters. We are planning to haw several work days this spring - we will need volunteers. First workday is set for April 13 -there is a list in the lobby of inside and outside jobs that need to be done -please plan to join us.
EDUCATION COMMI1TEE REPORT: Martha McClaugherty reported that several slide shows have been presented to community organizations to provide education and to raise money for our restoration efforts. In November of 2001, we offered a tour of the house, oral histories by three former residents and a history of the Underground Railroad. Approximately 200 people attended. Martha and Joe Zelasko have met with John Recchuiti's American History class at MUC - they will be forming some ways that the students can help us. Several people ha've expressed an interest in taking classes through - we need to wait until we haw a working bathroom. Bob Hunter is developing a permission slip for us to use with all students who tour the home. We need to continue research to verify the work of Eric Johanneson, a former resident of the home and the person who had the home placed on the National Register.
CONCLUSION - Robb thanked everyone who attended and expressed appreciation to the Carnation City Players for letting us use the Firehouse Theatre for our Annual Meeting.
Respectfully submitted,
Ginny Daniel, Secretary
