ALLIANCE AREA PRESERVATION SOCIETY

Minutes of the Meeting - July 24, 2006 at 7:00 p.m. at the Haines House

In attendance - Maryjo Hepler, Gordon Harrison, Mike Aeling, Carolyn Miller, Martha McClaugherty, Michelle Collins-Sibley, Robb Hyde, Kay Brown and Ginny Daniel.  Maxine Haupt and Patricia Sacha were excused.  

President's Report - Martha opened the meeting. 

Treasurer's Report - Gordon reported $1,729.88 in the checking account and $14,248.52 in the savings account.  He has paid the usual expenses, plus $250.00 for the Chamber brochure and $15.00 per mowing to Andrew Hyde.  He moved $2,000.00 from savings to checking to help cover usual expenses and $4,000.00 from savings to checking to make first payment for bathroom project.  He is expecting a 6 month report from the Stark Community Foundation soon - as of February, 2006 there was a balance of $35,806.68 in our account.

Renovation:  Maryjo reported: 1) Mike and Maryjo met with Al Hupp who will be doing the parking lot - he will take the new brick - work night tomorrow at 7:00 to move brick onto pallets, the flagstones we have will be used around the entrance doorways; 2) furnace filters need to be changed and dated - Mike and Maryjo will do; 3) August 5 from 9-12 and Aug. 12 from 9-12 will be work mornings in preparation for Carnation Week; 6) Michelle's husband, Tony, will look at the community room wall to see if he can repair it; 7) myrtle needs to be weeded; 8) bathroom will be done before Carnation Week - John Webster is doing it; 9) Maryjo and Martha will look for wrought iron towel bars, etc. for the bathroom; 10) Al Hupp will stabilize the floor at the kitchen/dining room doorway from the basement so flooring won't have to be disturbed; 11) Maryjo talked with the Ohio Historical Society about the old kitchen floor - nothing will be done on it until after Carnation Week; 12) Maryjo purchased one post lamp for us to look at - would like two (one at top of back steps and one at parking lot end of ramp) - cost is $120.00 each, Martha moved, Kay seconded, all in favor, it was suggested we use small fluorescent bulbs in lamps and leave them on all the time; 13) it was suggested we move the bonnet from the gallery wall to the community room wall to keep it out of the sun

Education:  Kay reported:  1) letter is ready to go out to docents regarding Carnation Week schedule - entire schedule has been filled in and all have been notified of their time; 2) suggested donation is still $2.00 per adult; 3) Maryjo moved we increase the suggested donation to $3.00 beginning September 1 - it was seconded by Carolyn, all were in favor except Robb;
4) period clothing is in Grant Room for docents to wear during Carnation Week tours; 5) Martha redid room signs; 6) Doris Walker will be demonstrating caning and Michelle will be spinning.

Fund Raising and Publicity: 1) Robb would like to put up some of the Then and Now pictures on the Community Room wall for Carnation Week; 2) of the $26,000.00 worth of renovation work we are doing, we will be reimbursed for approximately half.

Community Involvement (includes membership): Patricia has set up a meeting with Don Shaffer in September.

Archives and Collection Care: Carolyn and Joann Dagenhardt spent one Open House morning listing and measuring items in several rooms of the house.

Alliance Historical Society Liaison Committee: Robb reported a large framed aerial view of Alliance in 1885 was donated to us by the Mabel Hartzell Museum - Ginny will send a thank you note. 

Old Business:

New Business: 1) the Tennysonians will meet at the house for luncheon on July 11, 2007; 2) Maryjo purchased a needlepoint sampler (Trust in God) for the house.

Next meeting date:  August 28, 2006 at 7:00 p.m. at the house.

Next workdays - Aug. 5 (9-12) and Aug. 12 (9-12) - please come if you can to help get the house ready for Carnation Week tours.
