ALLIANCE AREA PRESERVATION SOCIETY
Minutes of the January 22, 2001 meeting
In attendance: Jean Webster, Maryjo Hepler, Frank Barrett, Kay Brown, Ginny Daniel, Jennifer Crist, Gordon Harrison, Martha McClaugherty, Pat Sacha, Bob Hunter, Jr., Robb Hyde, President.
The meeting was held at the Alliance High School cafeteria and was called to order by President Hyde at 7:05 PM. The reading of the November 27, 2000 meeting was waived.
Robb explained that he sent a letter to the Straubhauers offering them $30,000 for the house and furniture as per our last meeting. He received a reply last week from the Straubhauers' attorney suggesting a price of $40,000 for the house and that an additional price for the antiques be negotiated based on a synthesis of the two appraisals. It is obvious that they are still attempting to separate the house and contents for sale. Robb passed around a daft of a reply letter in which we would offer a total of $42,000 for the house and contents. Furthermore, the letter stated that should substantial progress not be made by February 15, 2001 we would seek a declaratory judgment on the issue of separating the house and contents from Judge Reinhold. The membership approved the letter and went so far as to say it was extremely well thought out and written.
Treasurer Gordon Harrison reported deposits of $2,110, leaving a balance in our account of $3, 012.75. We have received a donation of $2,000 from the Evan and Suzanne Morris Family Foundation, the first installment of a $10,000 grant! We received a $100 donation from Paula Goldman after she heard a presentation to the Rotary Club. We have one new member, Robert M. Campbell, who paid $10 in dues.
Maryjo Hepler, Communications Committee chair, reported that there have been four programs given thus far: AARP, Rotary, Kiwanis and Lions clubs. A different chapter of AARP will receive a program in February, the Coterie will have a program in March and the Sebring Historical Society will hear from us in April.
At the next meeting we will break out into committees and formulate specific plans so that we have something to show people when we ask for money.
Robb plans to send out a letter to all of the people who have shown an interest in the HHUURC to keep them updated on the progress. It will include these minutes.
We noted with regret that one of our board members, Willodean Cameron, died suddenly two weeks ago.
The meeting was adjourned at 7:30 PM
