ALLIANCE AREA PRESERVATION SOCIETY

Minutes of the Board Meeting - Feb. 25, 2002

In attendance: Evelyn Brown, Beth Gray, Jesse Harry, Maxine Haupt, Maryjo Hepler, Robb Hyde, Martha McClaugherty, Virginia Proctor, Pat Sacha, Karen Twyman, and Ginny Daniel

The Board of Trustees of the Haines House Underground Railroad Project met at 7:00 p.m. in the Conference Room of Rodman Public Library.

Treasurer's Report -

In the absence of Gordon, Robb reported the following:

1) Passed out a check register for transactions since Jan. 1 (copy attached to Secretary's copy of minutes)

2) We are applying for 501(c)(3) status - one year after we receive it, our property taxes will be dismissed

President's Report -

1) Stark Community Foundation will look at Robb's grant proposal in May

2) Committee to write grants set up - Robb, Maryjo, Beth

Fundraising -

Plans under control for dinner on March 2nd - committee will get to church at 3:00 to help set up, other board members asked to help at 5:00 if possible; Mort DeHoff has donated a flower arrangement which we will give to church as thank you gift for their use on Sunday morning

Annual Meeting -

March 18th at 7:00 p.m. at Firehouse Theater; James Caccamo will be our speaker; Robb, Pat and Evelyn will work as the nominating committee; short reports from president, treasurer, fundraising, renovation and education committees will be given; refreshments will be served; invitations were sent to current members

Education Committee -

Martha and Joe Zelasko visited the 19th century history class of John Recchuiti at MUC - the class is working to update our website. Martha talked with Bob Hunter re: developing a waiver for taking children through the house.

Renovation Committee -

1) Jeff Brown of the Stark County Regional Planning Commission will meet with committee members Feb. 27th at 12:00 noon to inspect the house and give some advice on heating and plastering.

2) Elizabeth Murphy from Chambers, Murphy and Burge in Akron will meet with committee members on March 14th at 9:30 a.m. to look at the house and decide whether she would like to take on the long range project of planning overall restoration activities (see attached report in Secretary's book). Jesse moved that we set aside $500.00 to pay Ms. Murphy for her services. Pat seconded the motion. Motion passed.

3) The Ohio Preservation Office will be sending us a list of available grants for Ohio.

4) Mike's Tree Service has trimmed the trees, cut out the tree of heaven, trimmed the lilac, and cleaned the gutters

5) Gordon fixed the basement steps and several windows (attic window, old kitchen and new kitchen) with the help of Habitat volunteers

6) Jesse suggests we get a small water heater for under the sink instead of heating the 55 gallon tank in the basement, and that we keep the yellow bath but tear out the new bath and sell fixtures (he has a buyer for some)

7) Basement needs to be cleaned out

8) Have volunteer sign-up sheet at dinner March 2 - committee will have a list of jobs that need to be done this spring

New Business -

1) Pat said a tentative meeting is set with Russ Krohe, photographer, who will be doing the photos for the calendar

2) Jesse suggested we think about flyers (like Grove's has in Review) - done on colored paper, printed by Williamsburg Press or possibly AHS printing dept.

3) Please mark your calendars - future meeting dates:

March 18th - general membership meeting, Firehouse Theater, 7:00 p.m.

March 25th - 7 p.m., Library Conference Room

A motion was made to adjourn by Evelyn and seconded by Maxine. The meeting was adjourned at 8:45 p.m.
