ALLIANCE AREA PRESERVATION SOCIETY
Minutes of the August 6, 2001 Meeting
In attendance: Pat Keller, Maryjo Hepler, Karen Twyman, Pat Sacha, Evelyn Brown, Maxine Haupt, Ginny Daniel, Beth Gray, Cindy Marshall, Joe Zelasko, Jennifer Crist, Carla Hart, Jesse Harry, Lynn Goldrick, Robb Hyde, Martha McClaugherty.
Met at Christ United Methodist Church. President Robb Hyde called the meeting to order at 7:10 PM. He stated that tonight we would go over loose ends before the closing of the house, talk about our fund-raising strategy, our booth at Carnation Days and Jesse will go over the first steps in renovation.
Robb said that two week ago he was outside the Haines House and found an unbroken pane of glass that had fallen from the 2nd floor window. Because it was unbroken he took it as a sign that the "angels are on our side."
The Straubhauers attorney asked that the Alliance Historical Society, the Stark Preservation Alliance and the Alliance Preservation Commission sign off on the proviso about the furniture if we are unable to come up with all the funding. As of this time it has not been completed.
Robb has a U-haul rented for Friday morning to get the furniture from storage in Ravenna. Insurance has been arranged through the McConnell Agency.
The Fund-Raising Committee obtained a list of potential donors from Paula Goldman utilized from the Castle Campaign. Letters were sent out July 30. We went through the list of people that received letters and assigned members who were present to follow up with phone calls. It was noted that some of the objections we might hear included the condition of the lot. Remember: the garage and store building will be demolished, part of the historic value of the house is it's original location and we need a money commitment for now and the next two years.
New attendees Cindy Marshall and Beth Gray, both teachers, suggested we try to engage high school students (Student Council, Key Club) to volunteer. We need to keep track of volunteer hours.
Ginny Daniel contacted Rich Duro and was able to obtain a display space for us at Carnation Days in the Park. We went over the schedule for manning the booth.
Jesse told us that Health Inspector, Randy Flint, said he would demolish the garage and the store. Larry B...has donated a ceiling fixture and Jesse has also obtained a supply of flagstones and sandstones. He also checked into turning on the water and electric.
The next meeting will be at the Haines House! Saturday, August 18th at 11 AM. There will be a business meeting followed by a clean-up.
