ALLIANCE AREA PRESERVATION SOCIETY

Minutes of the August 18, 2001 Meeting

The first community workday was held on August 18,2001 from 11 AM-2 PM at the Haines House. Approximately 30 people attended and the secretary has a sign up sheet on file. President Robb Hyde convened a brief meeting before we broke up into small groups to commence clean up. Everyone introduced himself or herself and Robb told us that the Haines House is arguably the most historic building in Alliance. He informed the group that the electricity and water should be on by Wednesday. Plans for the next six months to year include:

· Secure the house for winter

· Systematically examine the condition of the house

· Correct zoning violations

Fund Raising-Pat Sacha, Co-Chair

· Letters were sent at the end of August to a “select” group of potential donors

· During the last 10 days, approximately $3000.00 has been received

Members who agreed to make phone call follow-up should do so by the end of the month.

A motion by Jesse Harry to start an endowment campaign was deferred to the next Board Meeting.

Ginny Daniel had coordinated a table for us at Carnation Days in the Park. She has made up a volunteer form and a volunteer hours logbook to keep at the house. We need a volunteer coordinator.

The next Board meeting will be September 5, 7 PM at the Rodman Public Library.

The next general meeting with more clean up will be Saturday, September 15. The following Saturday, September 22, we will hold an open house in commemoration of the Emancipation Proclamation.
